Covenant: Building a supportive and accountable community
The JSU Wesley Foundation is a covenant community, emphasizing relationships over mere rules. Residents commit to building a safe, enjoyable, and spiritually nurturing Christian atmosphere where students can navigate the academic, social, and spiritual challenges of college life with mutual support and accountability. The Wesley House provides more than just living space; it offers an environment for personal discovery, learning, and growth within the community.
Active participation: essential for thriving
As active learners, leaders, and ambassadors of the ministry, residents are expected to be fully engaged in the Wesley Foundation's activities and ministry, including attending required community meetings called by the Director.
Behavioral expectations: respecting the community and facility
Residents must uphold respectful and safe behavior within the Wesley Foundation and at events. This includes refraining from:
Using tobacco products inside the facility.
Possessing or using alcohol, drugs, firearms, fireworks, weapons, or paint guns on Wesley property or at events.
Violent or abusive behavior, whether physical or verbal.
Sexual activity on Wesley property or at events.
Disrupting quiet hours established by residents.
Leaving unsealed food in rooms.
Damaging Wesley or others' property.
Pulling fire alarms or misusing extinguishers carries a $150 fine and potential legal action.
Overnight guests in rooms or common areas without the Director's permission.
Maintaining residency
Financial Obligations: Residents must meet their financial obligations, making timely housing payments and notifying the Director of any potential payment issues. Failure to pay is subject to an eviction notice in accordance with Alabama law.
Academic Standing: Residents must be enrolled JSU students and maintain good academic standing with the university. Expulsion or probation requires immediate notification to the Director for review of residency status.
Facility Care: Residents are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of their rooms, including sweeping, mopping, and disposing of open food in the lobby trash. Rooms may be inspected by the Director or approved personnel for maintenance, safety, and emergencies.
Decorations: Rooms can be decorated, but painting, furniture dismantling, large nails/screws, or taping on walls are prohibited. Inappropriate symbols or posters may be requested for removal by the Director.
Pet Policy: Pets require the Director's discretion, an additional fee, and consideration of roommate compatibility.
Disciplinary action and financial commitment
Failure to comply with any part of this Covenant may result in eviction/expulsion from Wesley housing, as well as forfeiture of the remainder of the semester fee and housing deposit.
By entering into this Covenant, residents acknowledge and agree to abide by these terms, including their financial commitment for housing.
