Campfire is a reCreation fellowship for adventure and renewal in the wild
We're a community of JSU students who discover the wild together, build deep friendships, and return more whole.
Something happens naturally in the wild that's difficult anywhere else. The noise drops. Thoughts deepen. Conversations become more real. The sky opens up from a summit, and you feel something you didn't know you were missing — a stillness, a sense of scale, a moment of pure, uncomplicated awe. That's not an accident. The wild has always done this. It's an ancient remedy, and we go there together.
Real friendship takes shared miles, serious shoulder-to-shoulder time. Scrolling and swiping are corrosive to real friendship. It takes the kind of time we increasingly never give each other. Campfire is built around shared experiences. We build together, fuel each other for the journey, and tend to one another along the way. A community worth belonging to is not one you stumble into — it is one you build together. The right friendship at the right time can change the trajectory of a life.
Not just recreation -- it's a genuine renewal of the self. It's reCreation, because something happens in the wild. Side by side, moving together, the performance layer falls away. The mental noise fades. Conversations go deeper than they ever could through a screen. And somewhere between the ascent and the fire, you start to remember who you are. This is what Campfire is for.
The Journey Starts Here
There's a place for you at the fire -- no experience required, no faith background assumed. When you join, you'll land in our digital basecamp — a simple hub we use to plan adventures, stay connected between trails, and keep the fire going when we're not together. It's not where Campfire lives. Campfire lives face to face, out in the wild, around a real fire. But the basecamp helps us get there together. Answer a few quick questions when you arrive, and we'll point you toward the right place to start.
